With COVID still ensuring that traditional community events cannot go ahead, both the Saltash Christmas Festival and the Stoke Traders and Residents Association have moved their Christmas plans online. Saltash and Stoke Village would not be without their Christmas celebrations!
With the Saltash Christmas Festival usually bringing thousands of visitors to the town, this naturally couldn’t happen this year, so Diverse Events CIC and the committee put our heads together and decided that a Window Wanderland would be a good, COVID safe, option. After thousands of leaflets being distributed, and stories in the local press and on local radio, over 400 windows signed up and were decorated. This was fantastic news for the Saltash Community, the Saltash Christmas Festival Committee, and the Saltash Chamber of Commerce who make up the committee. However a bit of a shock to us here at Diverse Events HQ as we had previously offered to take pictures of the windows… not quite expecting 400 of them!
After a weekend of driving through every street in Saltash, we got to see some amazing windows; evidently there are some very talented people in Saltash.
The following week we headed over to Stoke Village, where there was a much more manageable 50 windows signed up, but still plenty of happy families walking around and looking at the beautiful windows.
These hybrid events, along with Virtual Woofstock 2020, show that even in times where the community can’t come together physically, they can still come together.
